Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII)—roughly translated as Beautiful Indonesia Mini Park—is a cultural based tourist attraction located in East Jakarta. The park commands an area of more than 150 hectares, and the reason behind the name “Mini” will be evident as soon as you get there, as the park contains miniaturized versions of all the islands of Indonesia, complete with their own signature cultural display. Visitors can also ride tour car, mini trains, and cable car to ride around the park and enjoy all the view.

Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, or Ancol Dream Park, is a very famous nation-wide attraction available to be enjoyed in North Jakarta. It contains everything that anyone can need to have a good time: beaches, seaworld adventures, and the biggest entertainment park in Indonesia, Dunia Fantasy/Dufan (the world of fantasy), where exciting rides and attractions are waiting for you to have great fun in all day.

Kebun Binatang Ragunan or Ragunan Zoo is one of the most well-known zoos in Indonesia, second only perhaps to Taman Safari Bogor. Located at the Ragunan area in Pasar Minggu, Jakarta, this zoo that was built on 1864 commands an area of 140 hectares width, and features a collection of more than 295 species of animals with more than 4.000 specimens. As one of the biggest zoos in the country, it will be such a shame if you miss visiting it in your trip to Jakarta.

Kota Tua Jakarta (Jakarta’s Old City), or more commonly known as “Batavia Lama” or Old Batavia, is a small area in Jakarta that span across East Jakarta and West Jakarta (Pinangsia, Taman Sari, and Roa Malaka), Kota Tua is a testament to the historical richness of the capital, signifying a time of long past when Indonesia was still under the rule of the Europeans. This is the perfect place not only to spend your free weekend time, but also to contemplate how far has we, as a country, has gone through since the day we declared our independence.

Monumen Nasional, or National Monument—which is better known by the abbreviation Monas—is commemorative monument built in remembrance of the struggles the Indonesians face during their quest for freedom under the rule of the Dutch at the times before the country reached independence. The monument was first built on 17 August 1961 under the direction of Soekarno, and opened for public on 12 July 1975. Located right at the center of Lapangan Medan Merdeka in Central Jakarta, Monas is opened every day from 8 AM to 3 PM. Visitors can even go high up in Monas to see the landscape view of Jakarta.

Two communities, The Suropati Chamber and Komunitas Taman Suropati, usually hold an open-for-public music performances and lessons at Taman Suropati on every Sunday. This is a great way for anyone to enjoy and appreciate music, and perhaps to know about it a little bit more in a fun way.
